North Queensland Principal Cycle Network, Townsville City Centre to James Cook University

This project is part of a group of active transport planning projects funded by the Queensland Government to help improve active transport options for Townsville residents, visitors and commuters. Feedback will be sought separately on the other active transport planning projects.

The Townsville City Centre to James Cook University project is exploring how to provide safer and improved connections for bike riders to education facilities, health services, business, sports and recreational centres and local shopping precincts. This connection for bicycle riding is shown in the North Queensland Principal Cycle Network Plan.

TMR understands the importance of this project to the local community. To date, TMR completed initial planning to identify a proposed route between the Townsville City Centre and the James Cook University. This work has been informed by input from key stakeholders including City of Townsville and bicycle user groups.

TMR is now seeking feedback from the community on the proposed route for the bikeway. This feedback will help TMR to:

• understand the current challenges and the opportunities to encourage more people to ride
• inform further planning for bikeway infrastructure and
• identify priorities for future investment.

Feedback from the community will assist in developing a long-term vision for the bikeway and TMR will continue to look for opportunities to progress delivery.
