Gold Coast Highway and Toolona Street, upgrade intersection

The department has improved pedestrian safety on the Gold Coast Highway at the Toolona Street intersection in Tugun.

The project provides safer pedestrian facilities across the Gold Coast Highway with increased crossing time at the intersection.

Key features

  • Created a safe pedestrian refuge area in the central median, which was widened and fenced.
  • Changed the existing pedestrian crossing to a 2-staged staggered crossing.
  • New kerb ramps and pedestrian push buttons were delivered.
  • Improved road surface on the Gold Coast Highway between Toolona Street and Wanda Avenue.

Current status

Stage 1 involved road resurfacing work on the Gold Coast Highway from Toolona Street to Wanda Avenue and Stage 2 involved the upgrade of the pedestrian crossing at the Toolona Street intersection. Construction was completed in September 2022.
